Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’: 2023 Biographical Drama Film.

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey shared news that ’12th Fail,’ directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, has been submitted for independent Oscars consideration. This 2023 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama, adapted from Anurag Pathak’s non-fiction book, chronicles the remarkable journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from severe impoverishment to attain the esteemed rank of an Indian Police Service officer.

Premiering on October 27, ’12th Fail’ captivated audiences across theaters in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. Vikrant Massey portrays the character of Manoj, while Medha Shankar takes on the pivotal female lead role in the film.

Receiving acclaim from critics, ’12th Fail’ emerged as a sleeper hit, earning over ₹55 crore (US$6.9 million) against a budget of ₹20 crore (US$2.5 million).

Vikrant Massey, recognized for his work in Hindi cinema and television, initiated his acting career post-graduation from RD National College. Beginning with ‘Dhoom Machaao Dhoom’ (2007), he ventured into television with series like ‘Dharam Veer’ (2008), ‘Balika Vadhu’ (2009–2010), and ‘Qubool Hai’ (2013). Transitioning to films, Massey took on supporting roles in ‘Lootera’ (2013), ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015), and ‘Half Girlfriend’ (2017).

Reflecting on his initial reaction upon reading the ’12th Fail’ script, Vikrant Massey revealed, “Upon my first reading, I was deeply moved; tears flowed for nearly 15-20 minutes. It was an extraordinary tale I hadn’t encountered before, resonating profoundly with me. I saw shades of my own journey within this narrative.”

The film not only resonated with audiences but also earned accolades from industry stalwarts such as Kamal Haasan, Rishabh Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, Vidya Balan, and more. Celebrating its success, the creators hosted a lavish event graced by the real-life inspiration behind the story, Manoj Kumar Sharma, alongside Shraddha Joshi.

Meanwhile, Variety confirmed Emmy Award winner Jimmy Kimmel’s return as the host for the 2024 Oscars, marking his fourth stint at the prestigious event. The ceremony’s executive production, helmed by Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Hamish Hamilton, will see Kapoor serve as the showrunner, as reported by Variety.

Set to grace the Dolby Theatre stage on Sunday, March 10, 2024, the 96th Oscars anticipate a celebration honouring the year’s cinematic achievements.
